Suggesting a name could win you a prize!!

I created this new necklace, which also includes some of my newest polymer clay creations. While I was creating it I was thinking about ancient civilizations, mother nature, Gaia, the feminine principle, ancient goddess....I'm sure you get the idea.
After completing this new necklace, and keeping all those things in mind, I just couldn't settle on a name. I asked my children and husband what they thought and although they had some great names, nothing quite fit. My husband then suggested that I get all of your opinions on it, which I thought was a fantastic idea. So I ask my fellow beadweavers and bead embroiderers if you would be so kind to leave me a comment with your suggestions for names. I will collect those names for a couple of days. Once collected, I will post all of your suggestions in a voting poll, and the person who suggested the winning name will receive this little gift package (shown below) that I put together, as a way of showing my appreciation. This package also includes a couple of my new polymer clay cabochons. I excited to see what you come up with.

Thank you so much,

  1. Unusual and beautiful piece...just my colors!

I'm a christian and in no way practice pagan traditions but I do love ancient Celtic history. The name that comes to my mind when I see this necklace and it's colors is "Samhain" which is the Druid holiday that we call Halloween. Druids called it the Little Harvest or Summer's End which was the time between October 31st and the winter solstice.

It has a very mystical, ancient look to it..not to mention the autumn colors...and that name just seems to fit.

  2. Gorgeous piece, Rachel!

I like to try to name some of my special pieces with something that has meaning. I think it's nice for people to be able to say, "this piece is called..."

That being said, my suggestion for a name is DEMETER. In Greek, it means "earth mother".
In Greek mythology Demeter was the goddess of agriculture, the daughter of Cronus, the sister of Zeus, and the mother of Persephone.

By the way, I love that you've ventured into polymer clay. I have a big stash of it myself, but I haven't taken the time to work with it yet. Soon...

  3. Beautiful piece Rachele! I love your color choices and that you've ventured into Polymer Clay. I love to work with it too- just wish I had more time to play with it!

The colors that you have chosen remind me of the Amazon and all the greens of the jungle and the reds of the clay pots found there. I don't have a 'person' name for you, but this is what I came up with after studying your piece: "Daughters of Amazon" Hope you keep playing with clay!

  5. This is a lovely piece - the colors are so verdant!

The copper and green together, the words "ancient" and "mother nature", and the general look all remind me of sequoias or redwoods. My suggestion is "Soul of Sequoia".

  6. Incredible piece.

"Rise of Spring" is my suggestion. The greens reminded me of the first touches of spring.

  10. I was going the same route as Nita (a very good card to draw by the way...)
I'll put a twist on it, and go with "Fortuna's Wheel". I prefer to not imply seasons or holidays to the names of my pieces, as I suspect this might influence the buyer, hence the wearer, to only wear the piece at certain times of the year. (We ALL know people who do this...)Personally, I like to wear colors year round as opposed to seasonally. And I saw your pretty cabs on facebook this morning. The same cab you used here, and the first thing I thought was "Wheel of Fortune", LOL!
Great work Rachelle, and that kit is pretty too! :)

  11. "Mother's Web" It avoids anything that might offend those put off by the sacred feminine references, but sneaks it in there anyway. :o) Love the webby focal! Beautiful work as always.

  16. "Handmaiden of Janus" is my choice. Janus was the god of doorways, beginnings and endings and was depicted with two faces. This piece has the lovely faces plus the portal in the middle. To me...it represents the powerful journey of choices.

  24. Wow I'm blown away with the amount of participants!! Thank you so much everyone for participating, all the name suggestions are awesome!!

Lorraine was also unable to leave a message on my blog as well and asked that I leave it for her. She said" I like the name of the Northern American goddess: "Antares" - (which means the following) : The star called the Scorpion’s eye. The spirit-star of the Old Goddess of the Pawnee and Cherokee Indians. I also like Cheyenne".
    Hugs,
    Lorraine
